4th Annual Lake-Friendly Development Award Winners Announced

On October 12, the 2006 Lake-Friendly Development Award winners were announced in Brainerd, MN. These awards are to recognize and applaud ecologically sensitive development along lakeshore and river shore. There are three categories of awards: Lakescaping Awards go to projects that use native vegetation to protect shorelines and improve water quality. Lake Friendly Protection Strategy Awards go to official entities that create regulations that seek to protect our aquatic systems. The Lake Friendly Home Construction Award goes to a new home construction project that preserves the environmental surroundings of the natural lakeshore setting. Congratulations to the following 2006 Award winners!

Lakescaping Award winners:

  • Laurel Mezner on White Sand Lake in Baxter
  • Todd and Tonya Person on Gilbert Lake in Brainerd
  • Whitefish Area Property Owners Association and the Rush Lake Association

Lake Friendly Protection Strategy Award winners:

  • DNR's Alternative Shoreland Management Standards for the 5-County North Central Region.
  • Kathio Garrison Mille Lacs Sanitary Sewer District and the Mille Lacs Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.

 

 

Lake Friendly Home Construction Award winner:

  • ETOC Development, Inc for a conservation design residential development called Fawn Ridge in Nisswa. Below are pictures of the community walking path and the community dock of this innovate development.
