Lakes Region

With an office and staff in Brainerd, 1000 Friends of Minnesota works to proactively influence public and policy debates on related issues in the North Central Lakes Region. We accomplish this by participating in several partnerships, collaborating with local units of government and working to engage citizens in the Lakes Region of Minnesota.

NEW! The Conservation Design Scorecard is ready for use

The Conservation Design Scorecard, a project of 1000 Friends of Minnesota, can raise the bar for future Conservation Design developments that are put on the ground. This scorecard is intended to be used by planners, planning commissions, local officials, developers, conservation professionals, and citizens – the very people who helped create it. Help support our work in the Lakes Region

1000 Friends of Minnesota believes that the lakes of Minnesota are critical to the health and future of our state. If you are passionate about water quality, aquatic habitat and mindful shoreland development, please contribute to 1000 Friends of Minnesota. We’re raising funds to publish the Voices for the Lakes essays in a book to inspire others to join in the stewardship of our lakes.

Healthy lakes are a critical part of Minnesota's cultural identity, as well as our natural ecology and tourism industry.
