Lake-Friendly Development Awards
1000 Friends of Minnesota and several partners (including Brainerd Lakes Area Audubon Society (BLAAS), Crow Wing County Lakes and Rivers Alliance (LARA), The Nature Conservancy, Minnesota Waters, Minnesota Chapter of the American Fisheries Society, DNR Nongame Wildlife Program, DNR Section of Fisheries, DNR Division of Waters, and A.W. Research Laboratories) developed and launched the Lake-Friendly Development Awards in 2002 as a way to recognize and celebrate homeowners, contractors and local units of government for choosing to develop or redevelop their lakeshore or riverfront properties in eco-friendly ways. Awards are handed out for lakescaping, lake-friendly home construction, lake stewardship, and lake-friendly protection strategies.
